The Center for the Advancement of Energy Markets
(CAEM, pronounced KAY-EM)

CAEM is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999 to promote market-oriented solutions to the challenges that confront the energy industry, other network industries and the nation.
Our mission is to:

  1. Chronicle and understand changes in domestic and global energy markets brought about by technological and policy developments;
  2. Expound a market-oriented vision;
  3. Develop consensus when possible on mission critical issues;
  4. Persuade and encourage key public policy, consumer and corporate decision-makers to implement changes to realize a market-oriented vision; and
  5. Serve as a credible, independent source of research, analysis and perspective.

Our expertise covers the entire energy market, but with a particular focus on electricity and natural gas, both wholesale and retail. We also promote network policies and business practices in other industries that interface with the energy industry, including telecommunications and water.

CAEM is not a trade association, a consulting firm, or a lobbying group. We are primarily a think tank developing intellectual capital for the movement towards new public policies and regulations, new business models and new technologies driven by competitive energy markets.
